Through October 10 to November 19, the crowd roared for the unexpected appearance of New Jeans in the 2023 League of Legends World Championship. Taking place in the capital city of Korea, Seoul, New Jeans proved themselves as extraordinary when they became the first group to present and perform the new anthem of the competition.
It is no surprise that the popularity of the South Korean girl group, New Jeans, is continuously spreading. Their hit song “Super Shy” has undoubtedly impacted social media and of course, the fans. On the evening of 3rd of October, a week before the championships, New Jeans released their song “GODS” as the new anthem as a collaboration with Riot. The song itself came as a surprise to many fans, especially seeing that New Jeans has a concept that is rather cutesy and electro-pop. Fans described “GODS” as dramatic and heavy, which came off as a sudden concept change.
7th grade Mcauliffe student, a fan of New Jeans, commented on the video: “I think they should be able to do whatever they want with their music. It hasn’t been that long since they debuted, so I think it’s good to try a lot of styles. In my opinion, the group is really versatile and any concept fits them.”
Additionally, the performance also provided a variety of perspectives among fans. New Jean’s performance fit the tense and exciting theme of the championships, with its dances and actors on stage. The show came off as unique and special, according to Mr. Lynes.
“I thought the montage that the show included was pretty cool. There were many different people that popped up, and that showed inclusivity.” he stated.
All in all, there were many different opinions about the New Jeans collaboration with Riot, and their appearance in the League of Legends Championships 2023. New Jeans have undoubtedly created a big impact in Korea since their debut: and fans are waiting for their exhilarating comebacks to happen soon.
