Celebrating the New Year has been celebrated since the time of the Babylonians! Back then, they celebrated the new year with a festival to honor their gods. However, it’s now all about celebrating, fun memories, spending time with family, and making resolutions to start the new year right.
Today, most people celebrate New Year’s on December 31st and January 1st of the next year. Everyone celebrates differently, but some common traditions are staying up till midnight on December 31 and counting down until January 1st. In New York, millions of people gather to watch a glass ball drop right at midnight. People also gather together to watch fireworks or go to a party to celebrate. It’s also common for people to make New Year’s resolutions to try to set the year off right. You can set goals to strive for, adopt better habits, or pursue any form of personal growth.
New Year’s traditions are celebrated in different countries. In Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries, people eat twelve grapes to symbolize good luck for the twelve months ahead. In Scotland, the first person to cross the bottom of your doorway in your house brings shortbread and coal to bring good luck. Additionally, in Colombia, people walk around their block with an empty suitcase to bring a year of travel. In conclusion, there are many ways to celebrate the New Year. It’s a time to make memories and enjoy spending time with your loved ones.
