Easter is a very fun holiday, but no one ever thinks about the real reason we celebrate it. To some people, Easter is about candy, Easter eggs, and the Easter bunny, but it is really the day Jesus rose from the dead for all of us. Easter is the Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion. Easter is celebrated around March and April every year by doing easter egg hunts, eating candy, going to church, and spending quality time with your family.
But the real question is, why is Easter known to have bunnies, eggs, and candy even though we should be celebrating Jesus? Well, the real reason why is because of Germanic Folklore and religious traditions. Egg and bunnies symbolize new life and fertility, while the Easter Bunny originally came from a German “Osterhase” (hare), judging young children, which later evolved to bring candy and eggs to young children.
Easter is my favorite holiday because not only do we get to celebrate Jesus rising from the dead, but we get to eat candy and spend quality time with our family and friends. Some have traditions of doing easter egg hunts with family and friends, or some may go to church and praise the lord. What traditions do you love that you celebrate every year on Easter? Mine is dying eggs with my cousins. Easter isn’t all about candy and bunnies, but is also about Jesus. who rose to free us from our sins.
The 8th graders, Ella Tricano, Carter Davis, and Abby Flynn, share what they did for Easter this past year.
Ella says, “For Easter, I flew out to New York, and I spent it with my aunt. We spent it going to churches, dyeing some eggs, and going shopping.”
Carter shared, “This year, I celebrated Easter by volunteering at an Easter Egg hunt in my neighborhood. I helped set up and oversee the hunts and games. I also went to Las Vegas with my grandparents. We had a lot of fun seeing the sights there. I love celebrating Easter with my family every year. I always make so many memories.”
Abby shares, “I always go to Church and hang out with my family on Easter.”
