In one of the most exciting championships in all of sports, the Los Angeles Dodgers took the Blue Jays to game 7 in the World Series. In case you don’t know what the World Series is, it is the final 2 teams in the MLB (Major League Baseball) playoffs. The series can go up to seven games, but only 4 are necessary. Let me explain. In order to win the series, a team must win 4 games. If each team wins, there will be a 5th game in the series. If each team reaches 2 wins, a game 6 will occur. So, if each team wins 3 games, the final game of the series will take place.
The two teams were evenly matched. It was Shohei and the Dodgers versus Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays struck first in Game 1 with a score of 11-4. The Dodgers decided they needed to get their act together and came back the next day to win 5-1. In Game 3, the Dodgers took another win in the second-longest World Series game in history. The game went to the 18th inning. Freddie Freeman, the Dodgers’ first baseman, hit a game-ending walk-off home run. Game 4 went to the Jays with a score of 6-2. Again, the Blue Jays scored 6 against the Dodgers’ 1 to take the win. This meant the Jays lead the series 3-2. However, the Dodgers still had hope and got a game-winning double play to send the World Series to Game 7!
The final game was the best of the series. The Jays lead the Dodgers 3-0 early in the game. When the top of the 8th inning began, the Dodgers were trailing 4-2, but Max Muncy decided that wasn’t going to fly. He sent a ball flying into the stands with a 373-foot home run. When the underestimated Miguel Rojas stepped up to the plate in the 9th inning, he smashed the ball 387 feet away to tie up the game and send the season into extra innings. The Dodgers’ catcher, Will Smith, came to the plate in the 11th inning. He decided that it was time to bring home another championship, so he sent the ball 366 feet out of the park to give Los Angeles the lead for the first time in the game.
The Dodgers’ pitching was incredible. They pitched 5 consecutive shutout innings starting in the 7th inning. They put their trust in Yoshinobu Yamamoto to end the game and bring home the 2nd championship in two years. The Dodgers’ Manager, Dave Roberts, gave the M.V.P. award to Yamamoto. Yoshi pitched 3 games, and the Dodgers won every time he pitched. In fact, he had two complete games in the entire postseason.
The last time anyone has won multiple titles consecutively was the Yankees. In fact, they won it three times in a row. They won it from 1998-2000.
When asked what they thought about the World Series, these three students replied:
Emma Oh said, ”This 2025 World Series had everything. There was an almost fight, a walk off home run, a game seven, a ball out of the park, and many more. I think that this was one of the best World Series yet, and I’ve even been to a winning World Series game. Ohtani, Freeman, Yamamoto, and Smith, in my opinion, were some of the best players on the Dodgers during the even games because of the way they hit home runs, caught amazing balls, and pitched crazy fastballs.
Decker McCoy said,” I thought the World Series was filled with excitement and good baseball. I wish the results were different, but in all one through seven games were fun and enjoyable to watch.”
Alyssa Fukuwa said,” It was an exciting and stressful game, but it was so much fun to go to the Dodgers Parade once we won. The Dodgers had such good plays, and I hope we can continue our streak!”
