To celebrate Peace Week, this year, ASB planned multiple activities and spirit days from September 18th through the 22nd. For instance, one way students can help support Peace Week is by following several spirit days. Starting from Monday, September 18th, students are encouraged to wear sports gear to show their sportsmanship. On the following Tuesday, the theme includes wearing pajamas to be a “dream friend”. Furthermore, the dress code for Wednesday is wearing a band T-shirt so students can band together. On Thursday, students will match up and twin to celebrate friendship. Finally, on Friday, September 22nd, students will shade out the hate by wearing sunglasses to block out negativity.
To embrace the importance of Peace Week, students will be invited to the Over Under Event that will take place on Friday, September 22nd at the quad during both lunches. This game will allow students to work together by standing in a line and passing the ball to one another by alternating passing the ball under their legs to over their head. The ultimate goal for the students is to deliver the ball as fast as possible. Nevertheless, the outcome of this activity may be more interaction among students which may result in new and long lasting friendships.
Finally, in order to spread positivity throughout the school, ASB will be selling Kindness Grams throughout the week. Kindness grams will help students show their appreciation to their friends in a thoughtful way. During both lunches in the quad, students will be able to purchase Kindness Grams to send to a friend for just $2. The Peace Grams will include Peace pledges, 50+ ways to be kind cards, culture bookmarks to recognize the different cultures, and peace stickers.
Clearly, McAuliffe is big about Peace Week in order to encourage students to be positive and optimistic for the upcoming school year. All in all, with all of the events planned for this year’s Peace Week, we hope to see you participate in our events!
