Throughout October 23-31, our McAuliffe Eagles highlighted Red Ribbon Week by hosting several events to emphasize being drug-free. Red Ribbon Week is our nation’s largest and oldest drug awareness program, so McAuliffe’s ASB recognized this week and hosted several memorable daily events.
First, on Monday, October 21, students pledged to be drug-free as they painted hand-print pledges during lunch. This displayed their dedication and commitment to living a drug-free life.
Next, on Tuesday, October 22, students showed their support and promise to live drug-free by wearing red..
On Wednesday, October 23, ASB hosted a Student versus Staff kickball game on the PE fields, demonstrating how everyone could team up against drugs, while having a fun game of kickball.
On Thursday, October 24, students were presented with drug abuse lessons during their history classes, to further recognize the importance of this week.
Lastly, on Friday, October 25, the winner of our “Life is a Movie, Live Drug-Free” competition was announced. Students had the opportunity to submit a photo or video (under 1 minute) showcasing and representing how living drug-free is important to them.
It’s safe to say that McAuliffe’s Red Ribbon Week was a hit! Many students loved participating in all of the activities, as they pledged to be drug-free.
One of our very own students, eighth-grader Celeste Blanchard, stated that “It was a very memorable time, seeing students get together and pledging to live drug-free lives”.
Overall, this week was unforgettable and recognized by everyone on campus. With the help of ASB’s fun and effective events, it is clear the importance of Red Ribbon Week, and the dedication to live drug-free lives. Thank you to all those who participated during our Red Ribbon Week; we can’t wait for the next one!
