A Journalist at McAuliffe

Kedric Delaney, Staff Writer

The Birdwatch was one of the most impactful things that happened to me at McAuliffe Middle School. I became close friends with my classmates and got to know them very well.

At first, I was scared about what I was getting myself into, but by the end of the first week, I felt like I belonged there. By becoming a Birdwatch staffer you feel like you are contributing and connecting to everyone in the school. I got to write stories that I was passionate about and that made me want to write more. During the year, when I was stuck and didn’t know what to write about, or needed help, I could count on my classmates to help me out.

In the middle of the year, we would start to accomplish things that we had never thought about, and after we did so we would be treated with a party. After this experience, I have grown a passion for writing sports stories and becoming a journalist. During my experience, I learned writing skills throughout the year making me a well-rounded writer. I honestly think that because I had to meet my deadlines it made me more task efficient and a faster typer.

All in all, I now enjoy writing stories and that makes me want to continue to be a journalist. Plus, it helped me in my other classes too. Now that my Birdwatch days are over, for the year at least, I look forward to meeting new people in next year’s journalism class. Eagles fly and Birdies write.
