This month is Women’s History Month, which honors the accomplishments and contributions that women have made. Women’s History Month came from what was originally called “Women’s Week”. President Jimmy Carter issued a proclamation in 1980 that declared the week of March 8th, Women’s Week. Yet, as time passed and Women’s Week was popularized, in 1987 congress made Women’s History Month official. Since then, people have continued to honor and celebrate the great accomplishments made by women. Hopefully, after being around for over 20 years, people will start to recognize, if they haven’t already, how empowering and successful women can be.
One example of an empowering woman is Anne Frank. Thanks to her records and diary, historians were able to comprehend what life was like in Germany for a Jewish girl during the German occupation (Holocaust). She truly did help the world understand the circumstances of living in that period of time. She not only taught historians, but also people, that all people have the right to live freely. One of her most inspiring quotes is, “In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.”
All in all, Anne Frank is just one of the many inspiring women that lead to Women’s History Month, developing into what it is today!
