Mrs. Hearn, a sixth-grade core teacher, shared details about her teaching career and other interests. She is thrilled that she decided to become a teacher and looks forward to each new day and learning opportunities with her students.
Q- What is your favorite part of being a teacher?
A- I enjoy getting to know new students each year.
Q- How did you know you wanted to become a teacher?
A- I originally didn’t want to be a teacher because my mom was, but I decided to switch my major to teaching once I got a job as an instructional assistant and loved it.
Q- How long have you been teaching?
A- 29 years.
Q- How long have you been at McAuliffe?
A- I started at Kids Korner and became a lunch supervisor 30 years ago. I then moved away and returned to teach at LAE, Oak, and finally McAuliffe.
Q- What is a good way to start teaching?
A- Kids Korner because you meet the parents and get to work with kids beforehand.
Q- What was your favorite subject when you were in school?
A- I loved history and math classes.
Q- What is your favorite book?
A- Tale of Two Cities, but I also enjoy non-fiction books.
Q- If you weren’t a teacher, what job would you have?
A- A travel agent because I’m already one for my whole family!
Q- What is your favorite book to have your students read?
A- I love Walk Two Moons because it’s funny, but also sad. It is a story about hope which I think is amazing.
Q- What is one of your favorite things about the McAuliffe campus?
A- It is a fun place to work with a great staff.
Q- What is some good advice?
A- Don’t do things just to get into college, do things you want to do. It is important to be kind, and careful.
Overall, Mrs. Hearn states, ¨I am so lucky to be here with all these great people and kids, I think middle school is a great place to grow up.¨ She enjoys every day with her students and always looks forward to what is next.
