The year is coming to an end, so to remember the year, let’s go back to the fall! This fall, McAuliffe ASB hosted a drive collecting new and unused socks. The purpose of this drive was to help the homeless and people in need during the cold months. Socks can be used for many purposes to make people warm!
The drive was from October 9 to October 28. All of the proceeds from the drive were donated to Casa Youth Shelter, a shelter for kids and teenagers, and Long Beach Rescue Mission, a local shelter. Any student that wanted to donate could so to their fifth period class. As the weeks went by, more and more socks filled each class’ bags. Some classes even donated 200+ socks! ASB decided to host this drive because as students and staff come on their way to school, we see people on the streets struggling to live through the day. The drive helped those people have some hope for the fall and winter, so that they would know people were thinking of them.
All in all, the drive was a massive success! The school was donated almost 500 pairs of socks for people in need. The class who donated the most gave over 200 socks! As a prize, ASB gave that class a popsicle party! Just remember, don’t forget about people in need, and do your best to help them out.
