McAuliffe Eagles showed their dedication to living a drug free life! During the week of October 23-27, Eagles participated in many Red Ribbon Week events!
Prior to Red Ribbon Week, ASB students decorated the campus. They hung decorative posters that supported living a drug free life. They also promoted many upcoming events.
To kick off Red Ribbon Week, McAuliffe students pledged to be drug free! Eagles signed their Red Ribbon Week pledges during lunch. The
se pledges were displayed around campus.
On Tuesday, Eagles wore red to show their promise to live a drug free life. Students got the chance to take pictures with their friends, using the Red Ribbon Week picture border.
Next, on Wednesday, staff and students participated in a friendly dodge ball game. The game was held at lunch, in the volleyball courts! When 8th grade student Amorette Kubis was asked, “Which Red Ribbon Week event was your favorite?” She answered the dodgeball game because she enjoyed watching the students compete against the teachers.
On Thursday, history teachers taught students about the dangers of drugs. Eagles learned lessons on addiction, drug effects, and overdoses. McAuliffe teachers discussed these topics with their classes.
When asked, “Do you think the lesson for Red Ribbon Week was effective? Why or why not?” McAuliffe 8th grade student Alexa Kouzoukas said, “I definitely think the Red Ribbon Week lesson was effective, many people in my history class talked about how it showed another side to the effects of doing drugs, and how it influenced them to not participate in doing drugs.”
Lastly, on Friday, the Red Ribbon Week poster competition ended. This year’s theme was, “Be Kind to Your Mind, Live Drug Free.” Many amazing posters were submitted, but the winner was 7th grade student Elsa Meserve!
Eagles showed their support in living a drug free life, and learned how to stay safe from drugs! Thank you to all the teachers who made learning about Red Ribbon Week possible!
