Intramurals are a great way for students to have fun, make new friends, and find a new hobby. This season’s intramural sport is volleyball.

Almost every sport that Mcauliffe offers in P.E. has become an intramural sport. Intramurals are a way for students to be active during lunch after a long five periods of learning. Additionally, they are events featuring recreational sports that allow students to participate in activities they enjoy in their free time. Each sporting event consists of six rounds of play. Participants who have a winning record progress to the playoffs. In the playoffs, winning is everything.

Mr. Maffet, the head of Intramurals, states, “Intramurals are to get kids active at lunch, give them an opportunity to compete against each other, and make their own teams.”

The current Intramural sport, which has ended this Thursday, is volleyball. There is a lot more to volleyball than the average person might think. You have to be ready at all times and communicate thoroughly with all your teammates. In volleyball, the main objective is to hit the ball over the net and prevent the other team from bumping it back. This is usually difficult, especially when facing an experienced team. All of those factors combined with a complicated set of different hits make volleyball a challenging sport to play.

Lea Guijarro, a volleyball player and eighth grader at McAuliffe shared, “Volleyball is my favorite sport to play since the game’s pace always changes.”

The eighth grade volleyball intramurals concluded yesterday which leads to the seventh grade volleyball intramurals starting next week!
