CJSF Canned Food Drive
November 15, 2019
CJSF, or California Junior Scholarship Federation, is a school program for those who have high achievement and want to contribute positively to their communities. It is one of the many clubs that students can join at McAuliffe Middle School and involves hosting events, community service, and attending educational field trips.
The club was started at McAuliffe Middle School by Mrs. LeTourneau, a Language Arts and Reading teacher. LeTourneau made the club in 2016. She claims, “My own kids were part of CJSF at [their] school, and I saw how it brought about unique opportunities for them to not only have high achievement but also to use their time and talent for good in helping others.”
McAuliffe’s CJSF club is hosting a canned food drive event from November 18th to November 22nd. The annual food drive accepts canned food donations like beans, soups, fruits, vegetables and more to supply to places in need, such as homeless shelters. The club will be donating to We Care, which is a Los Alamitos nonprofit organization which offers a variety of services to assist families in our community in attaining self-sufficient futures.
Students in CJSF will visit Language Arts and Reading classes and collect the cans that McAuliffe students bring in. To create more enthusiasm about the event, LeTourneau made it a competition between UCLA and USC. The students will put their cans in either USC or UCLA’s bin and whichever one has the most cans wins. The Language Arts and Reading class that donates the most cans will also win a school party.
If you would like to help CJSF, We Care, and those in need, you can contribute by bringing in canned foods between November 18th and November 22nd.
Furthermore, if you are interested in joining CJSF, a statewide organization consisting of over 600 chapters open to seventh and eighth grade students who meet the citizenship and academic requirements, see Mrs. LeTourneau in room 8.

This article is really good. It helped me learn a little about the drive because in orchestra it’s so loud I can’t hear the announcements.

It’s great how CJSF is getting our school to donate to the ones who barely have enough money to get themselves food. This is so more people could get in the habit to be generous and kind to others in need, which is what I think we need in life.
